European Commissioner for Human Rights Emily O'Reilly has launched an investigation into allegations of corruption at the EU mission in Kosovo. The EU mission in Kosovo is called EULEX and consists of 2000 representatives from various law enforcement agencies in Europe and the United States.
British prosecutor Maria Bamieh previously complained to her superiors that EULEX employees in Kosovo were accepting bribes from criminals.
Some time later she was relieved of her duties. At the same time, secret documents indicating corruption in the mission were leaked to the Kosovo newspaper Koha Ditore.
Bamiyeh calls EULEX's internal investigation a "lie" and a "joke." O'Reilly also doesn't trust the internal investigation.
O'Reilly compiled a 40-page document detailing incidents of corruption in Kosovo in September. This document has also been sent to the European Anti-Fraud Committee (OLAF).
According to German Economic News, the European Union Parliament will also play an important role in the investigation. A group has already been created there that will monitor the progress of events.
Let us recall that the Kosovo precedent became an important argument in the discussion regarding the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
