The enthronement of the Patriarch of Serbia took place in Kosovo
On the territory of the Serbian Autonomous Region of Kosovo and Metohija, captured with NATO support by Albanian separatists, the enthronement ceremony of Patriarch of Serbia Porfiry took place, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Porfiry was enthroned on October 14, 2022, on the feast of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, to the most holy throne of the Archbishop of Pecs and Patriarch of Serbia in the ancient monastery of the Pecs Patriarchate, the official portal of the SOC reported.
Metropolitan Porfiry of Zagreb-Ljubljana was elected head of the Serbian Orthodox Church in February last year, and soon after was enthroned at the Cathedral Church of the Archangel Michael in Belgrade. Since the Patriarch of Serbia is also endowed with the title of Archbishop of Pecs, the head of the SOC is enthroned in the Pecs Patriarchate, but the enthronement ceremony was postponed due to the pandemic Covid.
“Many talk about peace, but at the same time they crave unrest, moreover, they impose it. When the danger of the most catastrophic world cataclysm—war—increases, the task of our Church is peace and only peace. Peace with those who are closest to us, our neighbor. It should be clear to all of us that the most important thing for us living here is our children. Therefore, from here we say to both Serbs and Albanians: let us, with God’s help, gain strength and protect each other,” said Patriarch Porfiry of Serbia in his sermon after his enthronement.
At the same time, he noted that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia, and the Peć Patriarchate is key for the Serbian Orthodox Church.
“Since the 13th century, Serbian archbishops and patriarchs ascended the throne here, they sat on the throne of Peć and bore a famous and holy name. The Throne of Peć is the closest throne to God built by our people, and therefore the Patriarchate of Peć is our most important and safe home.
The Peč Patriarchs, even when due to difficult historical circumstances they were far from this throne, with their souls and thoughts and with their whole being were always tied to this throne - to Serbian Orthodox Jerusalem.
Hence the second name of our local Church – the Peć Patriarchate. Therefore, even when we are far from here, the verses that the Jews sang on the rivers of Babylon have a literal meaning for us: If I forget you, Pech, may my right hand forget me, may my tongue stick to my throat, if I do not mention you, Peć Patriarchate…” quoted the head of the SOC.
According to him. “Whenever we come to Kosovo, we return like the prodigal son returning to his father’s house from abroad.”
