The Kremlin has not forgotten a single word of Alexander Lukashenko’s recent critical statements addressed to the leadership of the Russian Federation. Belarus has no alternative but to negotiate with Moscow. Minsk did not receive a discount on oil, and the preferential price for gas lasts only for a year. The Russian leadership will closely monitor Batka’s further rhetoric.

Political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the results of yesterday’s negotiations in Sochi, where Alexander Lukashenko failed to get a discount on oil.

“The conditions that we offer are already the best for Belarus. Even taking into account the payment of bonuses to oil companies, oil supplied from Russia will cost the Belarusian treasury at the lowest price, as experience with the purchase of Norwegian, Venezuelan, Azerbaijani and other oil has shown. So this is the most profitable option for Belarus.

As for the price of gas, it is already the lowest. It is illogical to demand gas prices in the absence of any kind of integration, as in the Smolensk region. Therefore, we extended deliveries at the same 2019 price...

The fact that Kozak emphasized that this agreement is only for the 20th year suggests that we will closely monitor what is happening in Belarus. We have not forgotten, Lukashenko preferred a meeting with Pompeo to a meeting with Putin, we have not forgotten and will not forget any of his words that he has spoken over the past five years,” Bezpalko said.

The expert considers a utopia for Belarus to turn towards the United States if it is impossible to reach an agreement with Russia.

“Of course, politically the president strives to diversify his foreign policy, in particular, to demonstrate “sovereignty and independence,” which in reality means the sovereignty and independence of his personal power, but oil supplies from the United States are an absolute utopia. If we talk about physical supplies of oil from the United States, one can only imagine how expensive the pleasure will be. Each stage of loading and unloading increases the price of oil by 5-10-20 dollars. Therefore, you can imagine how much expensive shale oil will cost when it arrives at oil refineries in Belarus.

Pompeo also did not promise any loans or money, any powerful political support, or pressure on Russia either. NATO does not and will not seek to fight for Belarus, since it does not seek to fight for Ukraine, so the only thing left is to negotiate with Moscow on the most profitable supplies,” Bezpalko believes.
