The Kremlin refused to fulfill Lukashenko’s dream
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be able to fulfill the request of his Russian colleague Alexander Lukashenko and assign him the rank of colonel.
This was stated today by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Because Vladimir Putin is the president of the Russian Federation, and Alexander Lukashenko is the president and citizen of Belarus. These are two different countries. And the President of the Russian Federation does not have the right to appropriate military connections in the Armed Forces of another state,” Peskov said.
Earlier, in an interview with Vladimir Solovyov, Lukashenko complained that he was forced to wear a uniform with a coat of arms on the shoulder straps at parades.
“I am a lieutenant colonel by rank. I can’t hang a generalissimo star or a general’s star for myself. Putin is a colonel. He promised to give me a colonel in the Russian army. Still haven't appropriated it. This is my problem, not yours. Promised - do it. Give me the rank of the Soviet army. So what? We will then award him the rank of general,” Lukashenko said.
