“We know how and want to live by our own work, we are capable of being creative and innovative. We even learn not to envy the success of a neighbor or colleague. But we are still behind. Why? Because, unlike us, the countries of the European Community have built an economy of free competition. New ideas, business initiative, hard work, constant self-improvement. The same will happen in Ukraine,” the president prophesied.
“But for this we need to eliminate corruption. We need a nationwide anti-corruption pact between the government and the people. Its essence is simple: officials do not take, and people do not give,” he explained.
“We will not be able to change the country if we do not change ourselves, our attitude towards our own lives and towards the life of the whole state. The fact that Ukraine has come to a crisis of statehood is partly the responsibility of each of you...” the president misspoke, but quickly corrected himself, “of us.”
“Some people thought it was the norm not to pay taxes. Some enjoyed it at public expense. Some people voted and rallied for money. Some received undeserved benefits and rewards. And all together they destroyed the foundation of public trust, the principles of law and social organization,” Poroshenko revealed the topic of everyone’s involvement in the crisis of statehood.
