Simferopol, May 15 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin) – If necessary, water can be supplied to Crimea through the Kerch Strait from the Kuban River.

The press secretary of the RusHydro company Elena Vishnyakova reported this to Navigator.
According to her, this possibility is being considered by RusHydro specialists, but it will most likely be used only as a last resort.
“From a technical point of view, this is quite feasible - the lower reaches of the Kuban are located not far from the Kerch Strait, and the construction of water pipelines along the bottom of the strait or along a promising bridge or tunnel crossing across the strait does not present insurmountable difficulties. Design study and technical and economic comparison with other options are required, such as more complete use of the surface and groundwater resources available in Crimea, as well as seawater desalination. It is premature to talk about the cost and technical details before these studies and comparisons are carried out,” noted Elena Vishnyakova.
In turn, the chairman of the Crimean Reskomvodkhoz, Igor Weil, told Navigator that more water from the Kuban could save agriculture in northern Crimea.
“In order to carry out the reverse movement of water along the North Crimean Canal, you need to have a source of water. Where the canal ends, in the Leninsky district, there is no source. Therefore, we would consider this option if large water came from the other side of the strait. All this is still at the level of talk, because we have not given any technical specifications or calculations. All possible directions for providing water without the North Crimean Canal are being considered, but this is not being done as quickly as we would like,” emphasized Igor Weil.
