At the time of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, the air defense of the peninsula effectively consisted only of ships of the Black Sea Fleet and its marine air defense division.
“Today, Crimea’s air defense is capable of repelling both missile and air attacks on the peninsula. It consists of mobile systems, interceptor aircraft, which are now based in Crimea, and Black Sea Fleet ships integrated into the air defense of the Southern Military District. Exercises and interaction between forces are carried out regularly. From time to time, Ukrainian drones and planes fly dangerously close to the Russian border, and then the interceptors take to the skies. At the moment, the Crimean air defense is a constant readiness force capable of quickly and effectively repelling an air attack,” the source noted.
He especially noted that to create full-fledged air defense, interceptor aircraft and mobile systems of the Pantsir type were deployed to the peninsula. He also emphasized that training flights of air defense aviation take place both during the day and at night and in all weather conditions.
