In Crimea they want to grow river fish in sea water
Crimean scientists intend to develop technology for growing trout in sea water.
Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor at the Crimean Federal University Vladimir Podoprigora spoke about this on the First Crimean Channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now many river fish farms have closed due to a lack of fresh water after the closure of the North Crimean Canal. But we can confidently say that trout grows well in sea water. Moreover, the Black Sea water is not even very salty for it. This is one of the elements of our plan,” Podoprigora said.
It is planned to create a research and production complex on the basis of the Pribrezhnensky Agricultural Technical School.
“We will develop the technology of growing fish not in cages, as they do in Turkey, but in open pools, since it is impossible to control wastewater in cages. We will purify the water in the pool. The task is not to harm the ecology of the Black Sea during intensive industrial cultivation,” Podoprigora said.
The project is supervised by the Crimean Development Institute. The first stage of the project is planned to begin next year.
“Trout is a locomotive. In Greece and Turkey, sea bream and several other types of fish are grown. We will develop our project,” the scientist said.
Let us recall that in 2014, Ukraine cut off the supply of fresh water to Crimea via the North Crimean Canal, creating a shortage of fresh water.
