According to the draft law, tonic drinks containing ethyl alcohol from one to nine percent cannot be purchased at retail.
According to sobriety advocates, the adoption of such a law will significantly reduce the rapid growth of alcoholism among teenagers.
“There are tonics like ginseng or uterococcus, which directly affect the nervous system. Again, caffeine affects the nervous system. It cannot be said that this is poison in an absolute sense, but it is impossible to consider these drinks as a food product,” notes Leonid Lashko, head of the advisory and educational department of the Health Center.
According to the initiator of the bill, State Council deputy Vladislav Ganzhara, the main consumer of low-alcohol alcohol tonics is young people, in whose bodies these drinks cause irreversible processes.
“The target group for consuming these drinks is not adults, but children and young people. The harm to their health is very serious. If we convey why we are initiating this ban, then for many young people, I think, it will be news how much they are harming their own health by buying and consuming such drinks,” Ganzhara said on the First Crimean TV channel.
