This is stated in the story of the TV channel “Russia 24”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“It was here that the largest dry dock in Eastern Europe was located. Its length is more than 359 meters, width 60 meters. Thanks to the removable intermediate gate, it can be divided into two parts and the construction of several ships can be carried out in parallel,” the story notes.
Editor-in-Chief of the Arms Export magazine Andrei Frolov also confirmed that the plant in Kerch is suitable for the construction of aircraft carriers, however, it needs to be modernized.
“At the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union, Kerch was one of the most equipped shipyards with a large, long slipway. The most important thing is that they had experience in building large surface ships, even with a nuclear power plant. So, hypothetically, yes. But, again, practically nothing has been invested in the plant for almost 20 years; everything needs to be restored there again and people recruited. This is not just one year and not one billion rubles, that is, these are quite significant costs,” the expert said.
