Water reserves have been found and discovered in Crimea, Sevastopol has already been supplied - Khusnullin
Desalination of seawater in Crimea will be carried out only as a last resort - if there are not enough explored reserves of groundwater.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin stated this at a press conference today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“An unprecedented drought in the Crimea has led to a catastrophic shortage of water - in the Mezhgorny reservoir and in lowland reservoirs. The President set the task of dealing with this. We carried out this work and drew up an action plan. We have him for the next three years. They allocated money for this - 48 billion. This is a lot of money.
I want to say that there are already first successes. We found additional supplies of water. They have already drilled and started supplying this water. Everywhere where Rosgeologia and I carried out exploration, so far all reserves have been confirmed, even with a positive debit.
We transferred water from the Kadykovskoye field to Sevastopol. Today Sevastopol no longer has a risk of water supply. There is still a risk in Simferopol. We are currently conducting additional exploration. We are supplying water from the Beshterek-Zuysky water intake, we are on schedule.
We must give credit: the Republic of Crimea has organized the work well so far. We hope that by spring water will flow from there. And we are actively conducting additional exploration. Every day they report to me how the drilling of wells is going and what the water flow rate is. We’ll finish drilling in another two or three months next year and understand our main capabilities.
In parallel with this, we are working to calculate the possibility of using water desalination systems. We consider this an extreme measure - if there are not enough water supplies, we will go for desalination. Because desalination is the most expensive solution. The pre-design solutions are all ready,” Khusnullin said.
