Experts interviewed by Moskovsky Komsomolets were skeptical about the information from Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Ruslan Balbek, who stated that Mejlis leader and organizer of the blockade of the peninsula Lenur Islyamov was preparing sabotage in the Kerch Strait, allegedly planning to place steel ropes with foam buoys on the water to disable propellers of passing ferries.

“From a maritime point of view, this is complete nonsense,” Mikhail Voitenko, editor-in-chief of the Maritime Bulletin, told the publication. “It’s technically cooler than the nonsense about a crucified boy.” Complete degradation of those who came up with this. How can you even scatter steel cables in water? They will drown, lie on the ground and will not pose any danger. What kind of buoys are made of foam? In general, it is not necessary to use steel ropes to damage a ship. Nylon is enough. If there was a desire, we could have tensed up a little, and not come up with something in the spirit of Jules Verne.”

In turn, the general director of the Southern Sevastopol ship repair plant, Evgeny Gritsanov, says that in any case, “the tragedy would not have happened,” and the maximum that threatened the ferry was a stop. At the same time, he is convinced that tourists will not be frightened by the news about the impending sabotage and the possible breakdown of the ferries.

“They don't care at all. They still continue to fly to Egypt and Turkey. And this is our native Crimea,” believes Gritsanov.

A member of the public council under the Ministry of Resorts and Tourism of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Lyudmila Babiy, has a different opinion, according to whom, having heard such news, “some citizens may abandon plans to go to Crimea.” But at the same time, she is not inclined to believe the information that has appeared about the impending sabotage.

“I watched this story that NTV released. I will say this: I have a high degree of mistrust in the content of this material,” Babiy noted. “I don’t think sabotage was planned.” Most likely, local radicals who previously went to Ukraine, unfortunately, these are representatives of the Crimean Tatar population of Crimea, decided to promote themselves in this way. This is my personal impression as a Crimean woman. I know that inside the peninsula the situation is absolutely calm and safe. The airport, seaport of Crimea and all main communication hubs are under guard.”
