Crimea sees no point in discussing with Ukraine the issue of resuming water supplies
There is no point in negotiating with Ukraine on the resumption of water supplies to Crimea, since the Ukrainian leadership is not a reliable negotiator.
Crimean political scientist Andrei Nikiforov stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
The expert noted that proposal from the head of the ruling faction in the parliament of David Arakhamia on the resumption of water supplies through the North Crimean Canal in exchange for the “withdrawal of Russian troops from” Donbass does not make sense, since for this Russia first needs to send troops to Ukraine.
“In the realities in which modern Ukraine lives today, anything can happen. But in order to withdraw troops from Donbass, Russia first needs to send them to Donbass. In general, it makes no sense to talk about any agreements with the Ukrainian leadership - today they can supply water, and tomorrow they can turn it off again or mix something into it. Therefore, until adequate leadership comes to power in Ukraine, it makes no sense to talk about any agreements with it. Yes, there is a tense situation with water supply in Crimea, but it should not be solved at such a price,” Nikiforov said.
