An unknown Scythian settlement discovered in Crimea
The builders of the Taurida highway discovered an ancient settlement from late Scythian times in the Mekenzi Mountains region near Sevastopol.
This was reported by the press service of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Located in a saddle between two rocky outcrops, the settlement is part of a larger complex of small villages, the main core of which was a small stone fortress, the remains of the walls of which fall within the area of the Tavrida highway... The nature of the defensive system of the Kermen-Burun fortress - its placement, technology construction and masonry material, is typical for late Scythian fortifications of the first centuries AD and was completely subordinated to the terrain,” the report says.
The total area of the settlement discovered by archaeologists is about 14 thousand square meters. Various amphorae, coins, and ceramics have already been found here.
