The general of the tulip parade was announced in Crimea
On May 9, the Nikitsky Botanical Garden announced the general of the “Tulip Parade 2022”.
It was a variety named after the outstanding conductor and artistic director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This year, for the tulip flower exhibition, which the Nikitsky Botanical Garden is holding for the 15th time, 200 varieties were planted. Of these, half were presented to the general public for the first time. The tradition of choosing the general of the “Tulip Parade” appeared during the lockdown, when guests were introduced to the tulip colors online, and at the end of the parade, all fresh flowers were sent as a gift to medical workers in Covid hospitals. Not only Russians, but also citizens of the USA, Italy, Greece, Spain, Czech Republic, Israel, France, Ukraine, and Belgium cast their votes for the best variety of tulips.
This year we decided to continue the experience of worldwide voting, as a result, five varieties reached the finals: “Valery Gergiev Yellow”, “Avant Garde”, “Ice-Cream”, “Palmyra”, “Affaire”.
“These days, the grandiose Moscow Easter Festival is taking place, the organizer of which is this bright, talented, creative person. With best regards! Let Gergiev be the general!” – voters wrote on the NBS website.
Voting has evolved from an aesthetic-botanical one into a civil one. The fact is that in March 2014 Georgiev signed an open letter “Figures of world Russian culture in support of President Vladimir Putin’s position on Ukraine and Crimea.” In 2016, together with the Mariinsky Theater Orchestra, Gergiev came to Syria, to the destroyed Palmyra, to give a concert that included works by Bach, Prokofiev, and Rodion Shchedrin. In March of this year, Valery Gergiev was fired from the post of chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra because he did not speak out against the special operation in Ukraine. For the same reasons, La Scala theater interrupted cooperation with him.
On May 2, Valery Gergiev celebrated his 69th birthday. The victory of the solar tulip, named in his honor, became gratitude and support for his position and loyalty to the fatherland.
Thank you!
