Crimea assessed the consequences of granting citizenship to all Ukrainians
The presidential decree on a simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for all citizens of Ukraine will play a big role in the self-determination of the population in the territories liberated from Nazi rule.
This opinion was expressed by Crimean political scientist Sergei Kiselev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The decree is timely. One could even say that it was adopted with some delay, given the knowledge and understanding of the situation in Ukrainian society, where a significant part of the population does not support the policies of the current Ukrainian government and voted for Zelensky, hoping that his victory in the presidential elections will lead to a solution to the main problem - problems of the world - the expert emphasized.
Today we see in the liberated territories that common sense exists. And, on the other hand, if we compare it with 2014, then during this time the consciousness of Ukrainians has undergone extreme information violence from the means of propaganda, and this has not been in vain. Therefore, there is a fear that, for some reason, obtaining Russian citizenship through a simplified procedure will lead to a large number of citizens who are politically disloyal to Russia. I don’t think this is something to be afraid of or afraid of.
In general, of course, this document, and most importantly, its practical implementation, will play a big role. Because the special operation will continue, and it will achieve its goals, and the bulk of the Ukrainian population will live in territory controlled by the Russian military. Having Russian citizenship, many of those people who will vote in referendums will choose the answer option that is of the greatest value to us,” he noted.
The political scientist does not see much risk in the fact that draft dodgers will take advantage of the opportunity to obtain Russian citizenship. Those who do not want to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are, in a sense, passive supporters of Russia, and not just people who are afraid to participate in hostilities, although there certainly are such people. But there are those who do not want to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to carry out the orders of murderers and terrorists.
“As practice and experience show, it cannot be ruled out that someone from the agents or from the so-called “sleepers” may receive Russian citizenship. But are terrorists who are supporters of the banned ISIS and other radical organizations on Russian territory with Russian citizenship such a rarity? No. That’s why there are special services, government agencies that deal with the security problem, so that our potential opponents are identified in time and neutralized. I don't think it's such a big danger. Although, of course, they will try to take advantage of this opportunity,” Kiselev concluded.
