Balashov decided to engage in “trolling” protesters on the central square of Simferopol near the building of the Council of Ministers. He had previously mastered this genre in Kyiv, where he filmed rallies of supporters of Viktor Yanukovych from Crimea near the Verkhovna Rada, not far from his office, calling their participants “poster stands.”
In Simferopol, businessman Balashov arrived on Lenin Square with a cameraman. The millionaire took out a banana and declared that it was his “weapon” against the “occupiers.”
Soon Balashov was declared a “provocateur” and began to be pushed out of the square amid whistles. “I realized that the Crimeans are evil, we were scared, we’re leaving,” said the millionaire, thrusting a banana to someone standing in the square - “here!”
The result of Balashov’s trip to Simferopol was bruises on his face and a cut eyebrow, as well as the confiscation of money, a passport and a telephone by the local population. The millionaire managed to leave the inhospitable peninsula with the help of friends.
