A Wahhabi who attacked an imam will go on trial in Crimea
A Wahhabi follower will go on trial in Crimea for attacking the imam of a mosque in the village of Pionerskoye.
He faces up to 1 year in prison and a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The attack took place on April 1, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan. According to the injured imam Enver Bakiyev, in Pionerskoye he was met by a group of aggressive strangers. These were parishioners of the mosque in the neighboring village of Kurtsi. They disrupted the service: they insulted, kicked and twisted the hands of the imam.
After the next day, during a service in the same mosque, the deputy mufti of the Muslims of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, Raim Gafarov, was attacked, the police intervened in the matter.
Law enforcement officers detained a 44-year-old man who personally blocked the path of the deputy mufti and participated in a brawl in the mosque. He is accused of unlawfully obstructing a religious service, including with the use of violence. The Investigative Committee completed the criminal case and sent it to court for consideration on the merits.
