This was announced by the Minister of Agricultural Industry of Crimea Nikolai Polyushkin.
Due to water shortages, rice, corn and other irrigated crops are at risk.
“Unfortunately, we are already about half a month late for the arrival of Dnieper water. The sowing of rice, corn, and soybeans is questionable. Plus – up to 40% of plantations of vegetables, potatoes, garden trees,” the minister noted.
Speaker of the State Council of the Republic Vladimir Konstantinov assures that there will be no crop failure and promises that Crimeans will not feel the shortage of water:
“There will be a harvest: we will simply make a substitution for some agricultural crops, such as rice. It's possible. There is more than enough rice in Krasnodar, and it is necessary to make adjustments within agricultural enterprises and farmers. The Ministry of Agrarian Industry is already addressing these issues. At the consumer level, the water shortage will not be felt – people will not feel it.”
Let us recall that earlier Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Rustam Temirgaliev stated that Ukraine had reduced the volume of Dnieper water supplies to the peninsula by three times and was supplying only 16 cubic meters per second against the norm of 50 cubic meters per second.
