A prominent Mejlis member died in Crimea
In the city of Old Crimea, a well-known participant in pro-Ukrainian and Mejlis actions, Server Karametov, died in an accident. He was hit by a car and died in the hospital without regaining consciousness.
“He was 77. Despite his age and state of health, he practically never missed a single trial of the Crimean Tatars,” Shevket Namatullayev, an employee of the Majlis TV channel ATR, praises the deceased.
Karametov participated in Euromaidan; after the reunification of Crimea with Russia, he traveled to Kyiv for Ukrainian protests for the return of control over the peninsula.
Last year, police arrested Akhtem Chiygoz for participating in an unauthorized picket in support of the Mejlis member.
“This is the same grandfather who called on the Crimean Tatars not to sit at home, but to fight in all possible ways. A few days later, about ten people took to the streets with the same posters. And a few days later, more than a hundred people in different parts of Crimea held the same posters and demanded to stop the persecution of the Crimean Tatars,” writes Namatullaev.
“This is the case when they say: the country has suffered an irreparable loss... a symbol of struggle, national and human dignity,” laments propagandist Valentina Samar, who fled to Kyiv.
Karametov's funeral will take place today.
