The investigator for Crimea and Sevastopol completed a criminal case against a militant who was preparing terrorist attacks in Simferopol.
During the arrest, a supporter of the terrorist organization died, however, the Investigative Committee investigated his illegal activities, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
A foreign citizen who, according to investigators, joined the Islamic Liberation Party (Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation) back in the 90s, has been recruiting supporters in the Sovetsky district and in city of Simferopol.
“In May 2021, a man planned to commit a terrorist attack in crowded places, for which he illegally purchased two homemade explosive devices and a firearm,” the Investigative Committee’s press service reported. “However, he was unable to complete his criminal intent, since the man’s criminal activity was stopped by employees of the TsSN FSB of Russia. The accused died as a result of armed resistance.”
The investigation charged the militant with participation in a terrorist organization, for recruitment and inducement to commit crimes, for preparation for a terrorist act, for illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of explosive devices and for encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer. The case was sent to court for consideration on the merits.
