In Crimea, a 40% drop in tourist traffic is predicted due to the revolution in Ukraine

“We hope that the season in Crimea will take place in any case. But how much better or worse it will be than last year will depend on the political stability in our country. In any case, there are no prerequisites for the season to be better compared to last year. According to the optimistic scenario, there will be a 10-15% drop in the tourist flow to the organized resort sector of Crimea, I mean hotels, boarding houses, sanatoriums, and holiday homes. According to the pessimistic, I think there will be a drop of 30-40% from last year,” he said in an interview with the Capital newspaper.
Zelinsky notes that even if the political crisis is resolved soon, there remains an economic crisis that cannot be dealt with quickly.
“As the purchasing power of people falls, their costs for tourism and recreation are reduced, because they do not occupy primary importance in the population’s expenses. Moreover, the factor of declining purchasing power is noted not only in Ukraine, but also in Russia and Belarus,” he added.
The expert also said that the organized tourist flow to Crimea amounted to just over a million people. In general, the resorts of the autonomy received just under 6 million tourists.
