An earthquake occurred in Crimea
On the southern coast of Crimea, residents felt a weak earthquake. The earthquake occurred at 16:25 in the Black Sea at a distance of 25 km from the coast, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers and reached magnitude 3 at the epicenter.
“An earthquake with a magnitude of up to 3 occurred in the Black Sea at a depth of 15 km, 25 km from the coastal territory of Alushta. On the territory of the peninsula, the tremors were barely noticeable, there were no consequences or destruction,” said adviser to the head of Crimea Oleg Kryuchkov, citing the duty officer of the Alushta seismic station.
Residents of Yalta claim that they felt a shock at 16:04. And for the most part in the city center, as well as the villages of Massandra and Gurzuf. There was no destruction; glass and furniture rattled in the apartments.
“Indeed, the Crimean seismological network recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 3,1,” said Tatyana Gorelova, director of the State Autonomous Institution “KRC”. – The epicenter was located approximately 39 km from the city of Yalta in the sea. At the moment we are checking the information, checking all the facts of the push regarding safety. So far we have not registered any aftershocks.
I cannot say unequivocally that this is an earthquake that will continue, for the simple reason that this is normal practice for Crimea. We are constantly shaking a little, we don’t always feel it, but, unfortunately, for our seismic zone this is the norm.
We are now seeing renewed activity in the earthquake zone in Turkey, which may have led to such a reaction in our region. We remain calm and check all the information. When we have more accurate data after processing the entire network, we can come out with some kind of analytical forecast. So far, we have not recorded anything foreshadowing something terrible.”
