“These cracks in no way affect the structural or other safety characteristics of the facility; these are cracks in the finishing coating; they could have appeared under the influence of precipitation,” says Karlen Petrosyan, head of the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan. “We will now determine how much this is within the regulatory parameters as we conduct surveys and laboratory tests.”
And he immediately reminds that the FSB became interested in the quality of work and materials, seized documentation from the “Directorate for Centralized Maintenance and Development of Cultural Institutions,” and is conducting technical examinations.
This means it’s not a matter of cracks, but the fact that instead of expensive granite, the stairs were paved with cheaper material.
And when in November law enforcement officers first visited the directorate under the Ministry of Culture of Crimea, they were talking about limestone illegally mined in the quarries of the Leninsky district.
Last year, when the restoration was officially completed, the stone looked presentable, but as soon as the cold and humidity arrived, it became stained and began to crumble. The 5-year warranty of the contractor “Bavarian House” does not mean that the company will convert the cladding to granite. They will clean it up, putty it and be satisfied with that.
According to the papers of the supplier who fitted limestone instead of granite, there was no trace of it. And the sovereign millions, aimed at preserving cultural and historical shrines, disappeared into private pockets.
Apparently for this reason, the head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, refused to inaugurate the Mithridates Stairs after reconstruction and did not cover up the negligence of his subordinates with his rating.
