Religious radicals attacked an imam in Crimea
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Crimea reported an attack by Wahhabis on the chief imam of the Simferopol region, Enver Bakiev.
The incident occurred on April 1, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The attack on the imam occurred on Friday, April 1, while he was performing his official duties in the mosque in the village of Pionerskoye, Simferopol district, by a group of Salafists led by a certain Akim Islyamov, who calls himself the “imam” of the mosque in the village of Kurtsy, Simferopol region,” the SAMK said in a statement. “The next day, April 2, in the same mosque, the same persons attacked the Deputy Mufti of the Muslims of Crimea, Raim Gafarov.”
The attackers are adherents of one of the non-traditional movements of Islam - Salafism. The attackers had previously shown aggression against parishioners of the mosque in the village of Pionerskoye, but no punishment followed. The SAMK is conducting an official investigation into this fact, and has also sent appropriate appeals to law enforcement agencies to take appropriate response measures.
