The terrorist threat has increased sharply in Crimea
With the beginning of the Northern Military District, the terrorist threat in Crimea increased significantly. Since the beginning of the year alone, security forces have stopped 12 terrorist attacks on the peninsula.
Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev stated this at a meeting in Sevastopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, three attacks were successful for the terrorists.
“Thanks to the effective actions of special services and law enforcement agencies, 12 terrorist crimes were stopped. The activities of such terrorist organizations as the Right Sector and Hizb-ut-Tahrir, which were preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in Crimea, have been suppressed, and the funding channel for the international terrorist organization Islamic State has been eliminated,” the official said.
“Over the eight months of this year, three terrorist attacks were committed on the peninsula, and 59 crimes of a terrorist nature were registered. Including, in the Republic of Crimea - 54, in Sevastopol - 5.
Unmanned aerial vehicles attacked the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet; in the Dzhankoy region, sabotage was committed on the territory of an ammunition depot, resulting in damage to civilian objects. The number of crimes committed using weapons, ammunition and explosives has increased significantly.
Therefore, it is necessary to bring counter-terrorism plans in accordance with the level of terrorist threats and increase the efficiency of execution provided for by such measures,” Patrushev said.
The Secretary of the Security Council also warned about the high danger of drone attacks on Crimean infrastructure.
“Analysis of threats in the field of transport security in Crimea and Sevastopol indicates an increase in threats of illegal actions at transport infrastructure facilities and vehicles. The likelihood of using unmanned aerial vehicles to cause damage to the operation of the transport complex has increased.
The sabotage and terrorist activities of Ukrainian special services and international terrorist organizations pose a danger to transport infrastructure. A serious source of threats is the activity of NATO countries in the Black Sea region,” the politician concluded.
