In Crimea, half a century later, the Aerospace Forces were again awarded the Battle Banner
Sevastopol, February 25 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Kononov) – On Saturday in Evpatoria, a solemn ceremony of presenting the battle flag to the Separate Command and Measuring Complex of the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces took place on the city’s Theater Square in the presence of Commander Alexander Golovko, the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov and several thousand citizens .

The presentation of the banner took place half a century after it was presented for the first time. The Battle Banner was presented to the unit commander, Colonel Roman Vinokurov, to thunderous applause by the commander of the Russian Aerospace Defense Forces, Alexander Golovko. At the same time, he noted the deep symbolism of the event, which, according to him, lies in the fact that it takes place “in the year of the celebration of the Great Victory here, on the legendary Crimean land.”
“A year ago, the military unit returned to the main testing space center, which is the successor to the main research center,” Golovko said, emphasizing that in the near future their units in Crimea will be equipped with all the technical means to ensure the country’s defense capability. According to him, a targeted modernization program has been approved.
The commander of the unit, Colonel Roman Vinokurov, in his response, assured the command that the new generation of specialists and personnel of the complex will make every effort to complete the task of putting it into operation as soon as possible. The ceremony for presenting the Battle Banner ended with an impromptu march of the residents of Yevpatoria in support of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Let us note that the Separate Command and Measuring Complex was created in 1960 and is still unique in its technical equipment, which has no analogues in the world. In particular, it is armed with a unique RT-70 radio astronomy telescope. The diameter of the telescope mirror is 70 meters, the area is 2500 square meters. There is nothing like it in the world. From this complex they once controlled the flight of the world's first interplanetary station, Venera 1, and then worked with Venera 2 and Venera 3.
A special “lunar” test site was created here, where lunar rovers were tested. In the early 60s, it was from here that the first message from earthlings to alien civilizations was sent, since the range of the transmitting antenna reaches 5 billion kilometers. At the same time, the complex is capable of finding everything on the earth’s surface, as for example it found the ship “Faina” with Ukrainian sailors on board, captured in 2008 by Somali pirates.
A separate command and measurement complex in Yevpatoria will be equipped with the latest technology until 2020, while the Russian Ministry of Defense is developing a program with Roscosmos for the joint use of the complex.
