“All 1205 polling stations have opened and started working... Everything is proceeding as normal,” the head of the election commission, Mikhail Malyshev, said at a briefing.
“Queues have already formed in some areas; such activity has not happened since Soviet times. I would like to believe that it will last throughout the day,” he added.
Malyshev clarified that so far the organizers have encountered minor difficulties - landline communications did not work at one of the sites, and there was no electricity at another.
Polling stations will be open until 22:00.
The first exit poll results will be announced at approximately 20:00.
Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Temirgaliev said that today “has already gone down in history.” “Most Crimeans have a feeling of a holiday of long-awaited Justice. And Crimeans are of little interest in the reaction of Western leaders and international organizations - no one can deprive the residents of the peninsula of the right to determine the future of Crimea themselves,” Temirgaliev said.
