In Crimea, in the column of the “Immortal Regiment” there will be portraits of those killed during the Northern Military District in Ukraine
The column of the “Immortal Regiment” on May 9 in Simferopol will carry portraits of those killed in a special operation in Ukraine. This was announced by the head of the Crimean branch of the Young Guard, Alexey Zinchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Indeed, the idea was voiced why our today’s special operation heroes, their portraits, should not be carried through the central streets of our capital, Crimea. This initiative was supported. Already on May 9, with portraits of 10 heroes of our Crimeans, they will walk along the central streets of our capital,” Zinchenko said on the air of “Crimea 24”.
The charter of the “Immortal Regiment” does not provide for the participation in it of heroes of all wars in which Russia and the Soviet Union participated. As the coordinator of the movement in Crimea, Sergei Melnik, explained to PolitNavigator, in this case the organizers will make an exception and hope that the portraits of the dead fighters will be carried by their relatives. This condition for participation in the procession remains unchanged.
“The Immortal Regiment” takes place on May 9, the day of the end of the Great Patriotic War, and the descendants of the heroes stand in the parade formation in place of their departed loved ones, Melnik noted. “Now the task is to support those who cannot lead a procession in their cities and countries where the regiment has been banned by the authorities. Such portraits of veterans who are not honored and preferred to be forgotten should be in service, even if not in the hands of descendants.”
This year the “Immortal Regiment” will be held in Simferopol for the tenth time. For the last two years, due to the coronavirus, the processions took place online with the demonstration of portraits of veterans. On May 9, the column of the “Immortal Regiment” will follow the parade participants from the center of Simferopol to the Eternal Flame in the park named after. Gagarin.
