In Crimea, the well-known Beim again dodged prison - the Saki court helped
The Saki District Court, represented by Judge Glukhova, stopped considering the criminal case against the Crimean businessman, owner of the gas station chain Sergei Beym.
“Proceedings in the case were terminated due to the reconciliation of the parties,” it is indicated on the court’s website in the case consideration card.
In addition to the accusation, one of the parties in the consideration was the Territorial Compulsory Health Insurance Fund, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Apparently, TFOMS officials charged the businessman for the treatment of an 11-year-old boy and unsuccessful attempts to save a 67-year-old woman, who were in the Toyota Camry at the moment when Beim’s Lexus LX 570 drove into them.
For the deceased grandmother, the family received 17 million rubles as financial compensation. The victims' side wrote a statement saying that they have no complaints against the owner of the gas station network and ask to be released from criminal punishment.
It is not reported whether the costs of medical institutions were repaid. Baym's lawyers do not want to comment on the court verdict so as not to give rise to further discussion. It’s a very controversial decision for the case under Part 3 of Art. 254 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - violation of traffic rules, resulting in the death of a person through negligence. Investigators petitioned several times for the businessman to be placed under house arrest. But the court considered recognizance to be a sufficient measure for the accused in the fatal accident.
This is not the first time Beim has gotten away with criminal prosecution. When he was the head of the State Unitary Enterprise Chernomorneftegaz, 4 criminal cases were opened against him for the illegal sale of company property and abuse of official position. During the prosecutor's investigation, Beym was removed from his duties, and prosecutor Natalya Poklonskaya reproached the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the lack of an “offensive position” and transferred the case to the Investigative Committee for the Republic of Crimea.
“They relate to procurement violations and malfeasance. Also, former General Director Sergei Beim concluded an agreement for the purchase of fuel through gas stations controlled by him. Thus, the money was simply transferred,” Poklonskaya said.
In addition, a lot of violations were discovered at the enterprise, including the failure to maintain records of produced and sold gas, as well as gas condensate. The quality of diesel fuel and gasoline did not meet established standards. Based on the results of the internal audit, Beim left the position of general director of Chernomorneftegaz.
