In Crimea, the idea of reviving the cruiser "Moscow" was put forward
Speaker of the Crimean Parliament Vladimir Konstantinov proposed building a new cruiser "Moskva" through popular fundraising using "people's money."
He believes that such an idea will captivate Crimeans, Black Sea sailors and will find a response throughout the country, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Konstantinov recalled that the cruiser “Moskva” was a symbol of the indissoluble connection between Crimea, the Black Sea Fleet and Russia. In the 90s, the Moscow government saved it from disposal, thanks to which the cruiser received a second combat name.
“Then it was a signal to all Crimeans that Moscow did not abandon us, that it is with us,” noted the head of parliament. “Such signals allowed us to keep Russia within ourselves throughout the years of Ukrainian occupation, and then to return to the bosom of our native state. Let’s make this symbol of our indissoluble connection with mainland Russia eternal and invulnerable.”
The tradition of donating your savings to the needs of the army has deep roots. The Militia of Minin and Pozharsky gathered for people's money, and regiments were staffed with voluntary donations in 1812. During the Great Patriotic War, combat aircraft and tanks operated in the ranks of the Red Army, built at the personal expense of outstanding figures of science and culture, and labor collectives.
“We are confident that our state is able to allocate as much funds as necessary for the country’s defense. And we are well aware that these funds went to the budget in the form of taxes and fees, which we pay. But it is very important to have before your eyes a clear example of our personal participation in strengthening the country’s sovereign power,” Konstantinov believes. “Let’s revive the people’s missile cruiser “Moskva”!”
On April 14, it became known about the death of the cruiser "Moskva", on board of which ammunition detonated due to a strong fire. While being towed to Crimea, the ship sank. The crew was evacuated and taken to Sevastopol.
Black Sea sailors who served on the Moskva at different times held a civil event in Sevastopol - farewell to the flagship at the monument to the 300th anniversary of the Russian Fleet.
