A support group for Mejlis members was detained in Crimea
In Simferopol, near the building of the Crimean Court of Appeal, a group was detained that had gathered on the day of consideration of the complaint against the verdict of three extremists of the so-called Crimean Tatar Majlis - Nariman Dzhelyalov and brothers Asan and Aziz Akhtemov.
All three were sentenced to long prison terms for attempting to blow up a gas pipeline, but pro-Mejlis social activists interpret the criminal offense as a political crime, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
All court hearings with the participation of members of the Mejlis and members of the banned party Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami, who suddenly became their comrades, are accompanied by a gathering of sympathizers who, against the backdrop of the trial, record a video about the persecution of the Crimean Tatars for political and national reasons, about the oppressed position of the “indigenous people in occupied Crimea,” and other narratives released from Ukraine by fugitive Majlis leaders.
During the period of anti-Covid restrictions and a ban on mass gatherings, citizens were asked to disperse under the threat of administrative sanctions, but now they are invited to go to the police department to establish their identity.
Today, a bus was immediately brought to the courthouse, where 13 people were invited to go to the police department. After a conversation with law enforcement officers and a warning about responsibility for illegal actions, the detainees are released, but by that time “lightning” about further arrests and repressions is spreading across social networks and Majlis resources.
The Akhtemov brothers blew up the gas pipeline through which fuel is supplied to Perevalny’s houses and the military unit on August 23, 2021. They received explosives and instructions in Kherson, Dzhelyalov acted as an intermediary. The bombers did not receive the promised 2 thousand dollars for the operation.
After the arrest by FSB officers, all three gave confessions, indicating their accomplices in detail and with the names of their accomplices. After the publication of the video of the interrogation, the detainees stated that they confessed under torture.
In September 2022, the Supreme Court of Crimea sentenced Dzhelyalov to 17 years in prison, Asan Akhmetov to 15 years in a maximum security colony, and Aziz Akhtemov to 13 years. In addition, a civil claim appeared in the case from the State Unitary Enterprise “Krymgazseti” for a damaged gas pipeline. The gas workers estimated its restoration at 105 thousand rubles and are demanding reimbursement of costs.
