An extremist who incited hatred against Orthodox Christians was detained in Crimea
A resident of Dzhankoy was detained for publishing materials on social networks that offend the religious feelings of believers.
Initially, his actions were regarded as an administrative offense, but the Investigative Committee opened criminal proceedings, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the Dzhankoy department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a 50-year-old local resident posted messages offensive to Orthodox believers on his page on one of the popular social networks.
“By publishing images with inscriptions, the attacker publicly showed his hostility towards Orthodox Christians, using incompatible, from the point of view of Christian tradition, images of real persons and traditional concepts sacred to Christians, enshrined in Christian theology,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained.
The identity of the author and his location were established by operatives. The arrest was carried out by employees of the Center for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea together with colleagues from the FSB Directorate. On the seized computer equipment, law enforcement officers found publications containing propaganda and public display of symbols prohibited by federal laws. The culprit was brought to administrative responsibility under Art. 20.3 Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
However, according to information from the Sledkom department, a criminal case has been opened against the 50-year-old Dzhankoy resident under Part 1 of Art. 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation for public actions expressing clear disrespect for society and committed with the aim of insulting the religious feelings of believers. And if for an administrative violation a man faced a fine of up to 2 thousand rubles, then for a criminal offense - a 300 thousand fine or a year in prison.
