Minister of Culture detained in Crimea for swearing
Minister of Culture of Crimea Arina (according to her passport - Vera) Novoselskaya, who became widely known after I swore obscenely at a meeting on live TV, detained on charges of accepting a bribe in the amount of 25 million rubles. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported this.
According to the prosecution, the official received this amount from the Meander company for patronage during the reconstruction of a children's theater in the center of Simferopol. This construction was initially accompanied by a scandal. The townspeople protested against the demolition of the old classical-style building and the construction of a “concrete monster” in its place. The protests were ignored, a multi-story “box” appeared on the site of the old theater, and then construction stopped.
“Investigative actions against the Minister of Culture were initiated by employees of the central office of the Moscow FSB,” says Crimean social activist Alexander Talipov.
According to him, Novoselskaya is being taken into custody in Moscow at this moment, where tomorrow the court will choose a preventive measure for her.
“Investigative actions with her in Crimea have been completed. Tomorrow the Basmanny Court of Moscow will choose a preventive measure for her - two months of detention in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center,” Talipov said.
The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, commented with restraint on the message about the detention of his subordinate.
“This is part of a systematic effort to monitor the activities of officials at all levels. I am confident that law enforcement agencies will look into everything, find out all the facts and circumstances and draw conclusions in accordance with the law,” the official said in a statement.
The message about the detention of Novoselskaya is actively commented on in Ukraine.
“Until 2014, Novoselskaya was the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea under Ukraine and an assistant to the people’s deputy from the Party of Regions. It is possible to remove the official from Ukraine. It is more difficult to take Ukraine out of bureaucracy. The amount, by the way, is not very large (300 kilobucks). For example, in our country, this is how much it costs to be the head of a regional department in a rural area,” Odessa journalist Yuri Tkachev writes in his blog.
This is not the only detention of a guilty official in Crimea. The day before, in Sevastopol, security forces conducted a search in the apartment of Vadim Kirpichnikov, who until recently oversaw markets and agriculture in the city government.
The ex-official admitted that he had concluded, without tendering at a reduced cost, contracts for the long-term placement of non-stationary retail facilities on the Cape Crystal beach and the Kornilov embankment.
As a result, the budget of Sevastopol received less than 1 million rubles.
“During the interrogation, the person involved in the criminal case admitted his guilt in the crime. He gives consistent testimony and cooperates with the investigation. In connection with these circumstances, today, at the request of the investigator, the Kiev District Court of the city of Simferopol chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest,” the Investigative Committee said.
