A new highway from Kerch to Dzhankoy was planned in Crimea.

There is no consent from the federal government for its construction, since all attention and funds are now going to new regions, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“To simplify logistics, it is planned to build the Kerch-Feodosia-Dzhankoy highway, which will free the center of the peninsula from freight transport and reduce the time of cargo delivery,” said the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov in his telegram channel. – Now this decision is being worked out, geological surveys are being carried out, the cost and number of lanes of the road are being determined. The plan for the new highway will then be submitted to the federal government.”

Former Minister of Transport of Crimea, and now head of the region's Freight Carriers Association, Anatoly Tsurkin, clarified that we are talking about expanding the existing road.

“Most likely we are talking about the reconstruction of the section from Dzhankoy to Feodosia. Before the terrorist attack on the Crimean Bridge, freight carriers actively used this route to deliver goods to/from the Krasnodar Territory,” he wrote in his Telegram channel. – The road surface there is of very decent quality, appropriate repairs have been carried out and maintenance has been carried out. We are specifically talking about expanding to four lanes with increasing the capacity of the road network for cargo heading to new regions of the country from the south.”

Acting Governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo has a slightly different point of view. A road to Crimea from the Kherson region is needed, but it must go along the Arabat Spit in order to give impetus to the development of the coast of the Azov Sea and the new city, the construction of which has already begun.

“This is another road that will connect Crimea with the Russian mainland. We are tying into a single transport hub: the Republic of Crimea – the Kherson region – the mainland of Russia,” noted Saldo in a comment to the Tavriya TV channel.

The width of the Arabat Spit at its narrowest point is 300 meters. There is a road, but it is mostly dirt, and only SUVs can overcome the potholes. Saldo did not specify how much it would cost to build a new route, but previously the head of Crimea Aksyonov also supported this project, and even announced the preparation of a feasibility study.

“The route will help shorten the journey and simplify logistics. It will be possible to ensure the safety of the route without additional fences, this will reduce construction costs,” Aksenov assured.

Previously, the main highway that would simplify communication between Crimea, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions was considered to be a highway with the project name “Tavrida 2” - a four-lane road with a permitted speed of up to 90 km/h from Simferopol to Rostov-on-Don through Dzhankoy, Genichesk and along the northern shores of the Azov Sea. Thus, the route from the Crimean Bridge to Rostov will be looped, the load on the Crimean Bridge will decrease and, as a strategic target for the enemy, it will lose its significance, negating the terrorist threat. The cost of this road, according to the acting governor of the Zaporozhye region, Evgeniy Balitsky, will be about half a billion rubles.

Meanwhile, road construction projects in Crimea are gradually being phased out. For two years in a row, more than 60 billion have been allocated for road activities, and among the latter three projects will be implemented: the construction of the second stage of the Simferopol-Evpatoria-Mirny road with a bypass of Lake Sasyk-Sivash, the eastern bypass of Simferopol from Donskoy to Perevalnoye, and a branch of the road from the highway " Tavrida" to Sudak as part of the implementation of the "Tavrida.Art" cluster.

The construction of a bypass in Alushta, which would take the transit flow beyond the city’s borders, and the expansion of the entrance to Yalta, where kilometer-long traffic jams accumulate every year, are in question.

Sevastopol has already been denied the construction of a road to the Cossack Bay area, where the traffic flow from numerous new buildings does not fit within the existing route. The project has been delayed until at least 2027, barring further cost adjustments.
