Nature seems to be getting back at the drought that occurred in Crimea last year - this winter on the peninsula has been unusually snowy and rainy (on warm days).

Precipitation has already provided the peninsula with drinking water for at least a year. This was reported by the Millet TV channel with reference to the State Committee for Water Resources of the republic, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

Today, almost all the peninsula’s reservoirs are filled to the brim - in Ayansky there are 3,8 million cubic meters, in Zagorsky - 22,6 (the forced discharge of “excess” water has even begun there), in Belogorsk there are already 12,8 million cubic meters - this is where the transfer of water through the canal began to the east of the peninsula.

The only exception is the Simferopol reservoir, which, although it is being replenished, so far the volume has increased only by half of the designed volume - up to 17,9 million cubic meters.

The total supply of drinking water in Crimean storage facilities today is more than 160 million cubic meters. This will be enough for a year, but they will continue to replenish after the spring snow melts.

“In the spring, rapid flows from the mountains should bring approximately 100 million cubic meters of water to Crimea. It will fill reservoirs and underground springs, and a significant part will go into the sea,” the story says.

Crimean senator Sergei Tsekov, in a comment to PolitNavigator, emphasized that, despite the high level of filling of reservoirs today, work to find alternative sources of water supply does not stop.

In addition, one of the tasks is to decide how to accumulate runoff. For example, as they do at the recently built Belbek water intake.

“Work is underway on new sources of water supply for Crimea. Maybe not as intensely as it was when we experienced a deficit.

Already now we have to dump water. Of course, if this water were discharged, conditionally, into the Simferopol reservoir, it would be very good.

But the work is being carried out - we understand that today, due to good rainfall, everything is fine with water, but no one knows what will happen in a year, two or three. So that next time we don’t experience problems with water, we are doing all this,” Tsekov said.

Let us remind you that earlier Ukraine refused to sell water to Crimea and unblock the blocked North Crimean Canal. Kyiv said it would resume supplies only after it resumed control of the peninsula.
