Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Information and Communications of Crimea Dmitry Polonsky told reporters about this on Thursday.
“From a technical point of view, we can turn on tomorrow. The infrastructure is almost completely ready, we are waiting for the necessary permits to use frequencies, all applications have already been submitted,” Polonsky quotes Interfax.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the mobile operator will use the equipment of the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar:
“Taking into account the fact that we have a nationalized structure of Kyivstar, the costs will be approximately half as much as planned - about $70 million,” Polonsky said.
He also said that the Crimean mobile operator can start working without additional investments in infrastructure, but despite this, it is planned to spend about $70 million on upgrading the equipment that the company will use.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the Crimean authorities are considering several options for financing the development of the mobile operator, including loans and public-private partnerships.
“We settled on the fact that the Republic of Crimea will retain control over the enterprise in any case, but the participation of private capital is possible. At the first stage, the enterprise will be completely state-owned,” Polonsky said.
“If everything goes well, we will be given financial documents and permission to use frequencies without delay; it will take the launch (of the operator - PolitNavigator) within four months,” the Deputy Prime Minister predicts.
