The communists claim that construction of residential buildings has begun in the area of the Memorial Sign in honor of fellow villagers, with permission from local officials issued back in Ukrainian times.
“296 participants of the Great Patriotic War lived and worked in the village of Novoselskoye. At their request, in 1967, a memorial sign was inaugurated in honor of fellow villagers. All village residents took care of the memorial site. Many generations of villagers annually participated in its improvement. Paths were laid out around the memorial sign and a park of evergreen plantings was planted. Every year on May 9, all villagers took part in memorial events and brought flowers to the fallen heroes.
During the years of Independence, the Bolshevik collective farm ceased to exist, and its former labor glory slowly faded into oblivion. All that remained was a monument that united human memory. During those same years of “Independence,” the fussy authorities of the village council of Novoselskoye secretly decided to destroy this complex. The territory near the monument was transferred to unknown persons for the construction of residential buildings. Someone liked this land next to the sea. So the saws began to sound: the green spaces instantly disappeared, fences grew, which blocked access to the memorial sign. Now it can only be reached from the back.
But concerned residents of the village of Novoselsky, together with veterans’ organizations, did not agree with such unconsciousness. For more than a year now, they have been knocking on the thresholds of various pro-government authorities in order to preserve historical memory. They wrote several appeals, including to deputies of the State Duma... While there are only replies, the villagers are left alone, taking turns on duty near the memorial complex.
Today the authorities talk a lot about patriotism. But in real life everything happens differently. The desire to live comfortably on the shore near the sea among the almighty of this world is stronger than the feeling of patriotism, despite the fact that this is the place of the strongest military operations, where many Soviet soldiers died, who gave their lives, including those living today,” the message says .
