A serious scandal erupted in Latvia over a trip of Ukrainians to Crimea
The Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Alexander Mishchenko is outraged by the visit of a representative of the Association of Ukrainian Societies of Latvia to Crimea, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The corresponding statement has been published on the embassy's official Facebook page.
In particular, the ambassador believes that organizations that present themselves as representatives of the interests of Ukrainian society in Latvia are “sham” and “pseudo-Ukrainian” if they allow their representatives to visit the “occupied territories.”
“Confirmation that the organization headed by Irina Dukule is pseudo-Ukrainian and a sham is the fact that on October 14, 2019, the authorized representative of OUTL, Mr. Leonid Mukhin, visited Crimea temporarily occupied by Russia and took part in a round table on the topic “Cooperation of Ukrainians of Crimea with compatriots abroad.” , where he made various statements and invited representatives of the Russian occupation authorities of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to Latvia from the Association of Ukrainian Societies of Latvia,” Mishchenko said.
The ambassador noted that the leitmotif of the “round table” Mukhin visited in Crimea was expressed as “culture outside of politics,” and was indignant that the representative of the Ukrainian community of Latvia never drew attention to the “occupation of sovereign territory by the Russian Federation.”
“Participation of the so-called representative of the Ukrainians of Latvia Mukhin is a shameful fact of his disregard for the legislation of Ukraine, which prohibits foreigners from visiting the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine without the consent of official Kiev,” the ambassador emphasized.
