In Latvia it is forbidden to take exams in Russian
The Latvian government has approved the initiative of the Ministry of Education to ban representatives of national minorities from taking exams in a language other than Latvian.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This discriminatory initiative, adopted without taking into account the opinions of representatives of national minority schools and the teaching community, is the next stage of the plan implemented by official Riga to squeeze the Russian language out of various spheres of life in this multinational state,” Zakharova said.
According to her, this is not the first provocative step towards the Russian population of the country. Earlier, amendments to the education law were adopted to allow the dismissal of teachers and scientists found to be disloyal to Latvia. The size of fines for non-use of the Latvian language by municipal employees has been increased many times over.
“I would like to ask a rhetorical question, why are specialized human rights organizations, so vigilant and talkative, again silent when it comes to the alleged problems in similar areas in the Russian Federation,” Zakharova said.
