There can be no elections in the LDPR while there are troops there - representative of Ukraine in Minsk
Holding elections in the territories of Donbass not controlled by Ukraine is contrary to international law since there are regular troops there.
The head of the political subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk, Roman Bessmertny, stated this on the Hromadske TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“No elections can be held when there are regular troops on the territory - region or city. This is contrary to international law. There may be a police mission, there may be a special contingent. But if there are regular troops in the territory, elections cannot be held. This is what all international rules that relate to electoral practices say. The last time there was talk about elections was around October 2017. After that, this topic was transferred for discussion to the leaders of the Normandy Four and no one spoke about it anymore, as well as on the issue of amnesties, etc.,” he said.
