In Lithuania they are afraid that Lukashenko will be filmed according to the Russian script
The West will have to accept the transition of power in Belarus if it follows the Russian scenario successfully.
Former Minister of Defense and Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said this in an interview with the UCP-TV YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Kremlin, I am sure of this, is also developing a scenario for replacing this leader, since he is toxic and unacceptable. Time is passing for now, but it won’t be forever.
If they make cosmetic changes, this is my guess, some kind of pseudo-elections that will far from be transparent and democratic, but, nevertheless, “elect” some other person, many in the West will breathe a sigh of relief. They will say: after all, it’s a different person.
But, in fact, nothing will change in this country. I think that such a scenario is very likely. I think the Kremlin is obliged to play on this, since it is difficult to continue with this leader, we need to somehow get out without losing face,” says Linkevičius.
He himself expressed faint hope that “Belarusian society will not accept” such a scenario.
“If people believe. If that's enough. This will show maturity and readiness for change - how society will accept it. If he accepts, then it’s not fate,” Linkevičius worries.
