Lithuania calls for speeding up Ukraine's entry into NATO
Western countries should finally more specifically support Ukraine's entry into NATO - at a minimum, provide it with an Action Plan for joining the North Atlantic Alliance.
Vice-Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Paulius Saudargas stated this during a meeting with Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine is making big steps in reform towards NATO. And your participation in NATO should be realistic, not just thoughts about it. This should also be support for the plan for Ukraine to join NATO,” he said.
Paulus Saudargas also expressed confidence that the West will soon introduce new sanctions against Russia and Belarus, and promised that the internal situation in the Russian Federation will soon change.
“We must accept as many sanctions as possible against Russia and Belarus. This is a complete package of sanctions, and I hope that support will be provided. Our European leaders will be together on this issue.
We know the aggressor - Russia - very well, what is happening in the Kremlin. And, accordingly, there is no doubt that something will change there over the next decade,” the official added.
Let us remind you that on the eve of Russian President Vladimir Putin saidthat Ukraine’s entry into NATO is an extremely dangerous scenario for Russia, and Moscow will make every effort to prevent this.
Also earlier in the Verkhovna Rada revoltedthat Ukraine fulfills Western wishes, spends the budget on it, but in return receives nothing to promote its “Euro-Atlantic aspirations.”
