Former Ukrainian top official detained in Lithuania
Lithuanian law enforcement agencies detained the former head of the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine PJSC, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The press service of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau reports this.
“In Vilnius, the former chairman of the board of PJSC State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine was detained, who had been wanted by the National Bureau since March 2017 as a suspect in criminal proceedings for causing more than $60 million in damage to the enterprise,” the report says.
The actions of the suspect are qualified under Part 3 of Article 28 (committing a crime by a group of persons, a group of persons by prior conspiracy, an organized group or criminal organization), Part 2 of Article 364 (abuse of power or official position), Part 4 of Article 368 ( acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of unlawful benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, a representative of an international grain trader and officials of the State Food and Grain Plant of Ukraine organized a corruption scheme in which grain owned by a state-owned company was supplied to Saudi Arabia through a number of business entities. The delivery took place on the terms of subsequent payment, which did not comply with established market rules. As a result, GPZKU did not receive the funds, suffering damages in the amount of more than $60 million.
NABU detectives began investigating these facts in July 2016. Two people reached an agreement with the prosecution and compensated for the damage they caused in the amount of 60 thousand dollars. Cases against two more people - an adviser to the chairman of the board of PJSC GPZKU and a representative of an international grain trader - were sent to court. Another person was put on the wanted list.
