In Ukraine, from the very beginning of Independence, there was never a political party advocating Russian identity, therefore the votes of pro-Russian people went in favor of Ukrainian political forces speculating on this issue.

This was stated on the Internet channel “Voice of Truth” by the former assistant to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Alexey Selivanov, who moved from Kyiv to Lugansk after the attack in 2014, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“From the very beginning of independence, you and I did not have a party for which we could vote. We reluctantly, spitting and chewing a cactus, voted for Symonenko, then for Vitrenko, then for the regionals, that is, we voted for the Ukrainian communists, Ukrainian socialists, Ukrainian regionals, in fact, these are all Ukrainian parties. And it’s not for nothing that Oles Buzina wrote in one of his articles after the elections that Yanukovych is a Ukrainian bourgeois nationalist, well, that’s how it is, in fact.

There was no party that would defend Russian identity, but the same Russian Spring that occurred in 14, it was not a social movement, it was a national liberation movement, it was a movement for Russian identity... That is, a request for political force expressing Russian identity, this request was never satisfied.

We looked for cautious advances in the programs of different parties to the Russian language and friendship with Russia, but what is friendship with Russia, what is a customs union, what are some cautious rights to the Russian language? Not a single party has ever declared that Kyiv is Russian land, that Russian people live here, that Russian is the native language here, and it certainly has no less rights here than Ukrainian. Not some kind of status along with the Ukrainian one, but complete equality at a minimum,” the expert said.

According to him, theoretically, a party that would come out in Ukraine under the slogans of ending the war and returning to Russia would gain a percentage of votes no less than the political forces of OPZZH and European Solidarity combined.

“There is simply no such party, and largely thanks to this, people are becoming Ukrainized, because they don’t see where to go. They see some abstract Putin who did not introduce tanks, and they do not see the Russians, in essence. It’s possible that I didn’t complete my work somewhere, because I once put up with all these left-wing patriotic forces. Well, they are against NATO, they are for the Russian language, how can you kid them? Well, Russian identity seemed to be blurring, there were no clear, clear, understandable slogans,” Selivanov added.
