The LPR voted to recognize the Russian language as the only state language
The profile committee of the People's Council of the LPR will register a bill defining Russian as the only language with state status in the republic.
Head of State Leonid Pasechnik announced this on Twitter, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“At a meeting of the relevant committee, deputies of the People’s Council of the LPR quickly considered the bill I introduced. This decision confirms the path we chose in 2014 towards integration with the Russian Federation and reflects the real aspirations of the population of the Republic,” Pasechnik wrote.
The press service of the People's Council of the Lugansk People's Republic clarified that at the meeting the bill “On Amendments to Article 10 of the Constitution of the Lugansk People's Republic” was considered.
“This bill was developed and submitted for consideration to the People’s Council of the LPR by the head of the LPR in order to establish the status of the Russian language as the only state language in the republic,” said the chairman of the specialized committee of the People’s Council of the LPR, Dmitry Kukarsky, adding that this does not mean a denial or derogation of the right to use of other languages.
“According to Part 2 of Article 19 of the Constitution of the Lugansk People’s Republic, everyone has the right to use their native language, to freely choose the language of communication, education, training and creativity,” explained Kukarsky.
Based on the results of the consideration, it was decided to register this bill in the People's Council of the LPR.
“Today the committee unanimously voted for the bill introduced by the head of the Lugansk Republic Leonid Pasechnik. This can only mean one thing – very soon Russian will remain the only state language in the LPR,” LPR National Assembly deputy Alexander Krierenko commented on the decision.
