The initiator of the cancellation of the holiday was Vladimir Kalinin, a deputy from the Yabloko party. He called the concerts on May 9 (Victory Day) and December 5 (the day of the start of the counteroffensive of Soviet troops against Nazi troops in the battle of Moscow) “completely empty events.”

“If patriotism for you is only war and our defenders and helpers, this is your right. A screen behind which loud words are hidden about victory in the Great Patriotic War, the anniversary of the Battle of Moscow or the celebration of the New Year is, of course, important for someone...” said Kalinin.

He also proposed removing the title of the concert “They Fought for the Motherland.”

"This is impossible. Leave the concert, but remove the name,” Kalinin said.

At last year's elections to the Lomonosov Municipal Council, 6 deputies were elected from the Yabloko party, 2 from United Russia, one from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and one self-nominated candidate.

Journalist Vladimir Solovyov believes that the deputies who voted against the celebration of Victory Day should be recalled.

“Are these occupiers in Moscow? Let's go through the recall process. This time we will have to go to the polls, because usually municipal deputies are elected by those who have nothing to do. They chose some underdogs. “Will they also cancel the Immortal Regiment?” Soloviev asked on the air of the Vesti FM radio station.

Let us recall that earlier the Yakimanka deputies came up with the “Ukrainian” initiative. They proposed demolishing the monument to Lenin on Oktyabrskaya Square. In the Yakimansky Council, 9 out of 10 deputies represent the Yabloko party.
