The exhibition features more than 20 icons and paintings of biblical themes, made using the technique of cross stitch, beads, and semi-precious stones.
The first visitors to the exhibition “Orthodox Face in Embroidery” were representatives of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic, teachers and students of Lugansk universities, teachers and students of secondary school No. 2, and connoisseurs of folk art.
The craftswoman noted that she treats the creation of the faces of saints with great diligence, so she has to work for at least nine months, and sometimes more than a year, to create each work.
Moreover, some of the works were embroidered during the difficult and dangerous days of the summer of 2014, when Ukrainian troops shelled Lugansk.
“At that time the shells were flying, it was scary, there was no light and water. There is soot and soot all around. I embroidered outside during daylight hours, hiding under an umbrella,” Kapinus said.
It was in the fall of 2014 that the craftswoman came to the Folk Art Center, presenting her paintings to a wide range of viewers for the first time at an exhibition dedicated to the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“We all remember very well this time, when, without light, to the sound of gunfire, the magnificent works of our masters were born,” added the head of the “Levsha” club, Elena Mitchenko.
