Lugansk celebrated the anniversary of the death of Russian journalists shot from a mortar by Nadezhda Savchenko
Today in Lugansk they celebrated the mournful anniversary of the death of Russian journalists Anton Voloshin and Igor Kornelyuk near Metalist. A memorial cross was erected at the site of their death. The opening ceremony took place at a funeral meeting in memory of members of the VGTRK film crew.

As noted in the press service of the head of the LPR, Igor Plotnitsky, assistance in the installation and production of the memorial cross was provided by the Russian All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company.
“On this spot, on June 17, 2014, VGTRK journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin died,” reads the inscription on the memorial plaque mounted on the cross.
Let us recall that on June 17, 2014, a VGTRK film crew filming a report on the evacuation of residents of the Metalist village located near Lugansk came under Ukrainian mortar fire. Sound engineer Anton Voloshin died on the spot, and correspondent Igor Kornelyuk was seriously wounded and died in the hospital. All journalists wore identification badges with the inscription “Media”. According to eyewitnesses, a mine exploded near the film crew.
The representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Markin, reported on July 9, 2014 that the Directorate for the Investigation of Crimes Related to the Use of Prohibited Means and Methods of Warfare of the Russian Investigative Committee filed charges of complicity in the murder of All-Russian State Television and Radio Company journalists Igor Kornelyuk and Anton Voloshin, Ukrainian Armed Forces officer Nadezhda Savchenko.
According to investigators, while participating in hostilities in eastern Ukraine as part of the Aidar battalion, she learned the coordinates of the location of a group of Russian VGTRK journalists and other civilians near Lugansk, handed them over to the militants, after which a mortar attack was fired at these coordinates, as a result in which VGTRK employees were killed.
