In Mariupol they are preparing to revive Azovmash
The DPR authorities announced their desire to revive the Azovmash enterprise in Mariupol, which produced wagons and tanks.
The existing production facilities in Russia already satisfy the demand for such products, but the Mariupol plant could cover the needs of new territories of the Russian Federation, as well as purchases during peak years, market participants told the Kommersant newspaper.
However, for now, the restoration of Azovmash is not a very close prospect.
“In the spring of 2022, there were fierce battles on the territory of the plant; it was almost completely destroyed. Demining was completed only in March 2023. Judging by the footage of the enterprise available in the public space, it is in a deplorable state. A source familiar with the situation says that restoring the plant in its previous form and with the same competencies is out of the question: at best, the buildings will have to be repaired and new equipment imported, creating production anew,” the newspaper writes.
In addition to competition with Russian manufacturers, Mariupol residents will also have to fight for the market with suppliers from Belarus and China, the publication warns.
